BiographyEdit

ConscriptionEdit

Around July, 2517, Doctor Catherine Halsey and her team processed the one hundred fifty candidates of the Spartan-II program with Riz being one of them.[2] On September 10, 2517, Riz was selected as part of the final seventy-five candidates for the Spartan-II program, where Doctor Catherine Halsey gave the order to the "Dumb" Artificial intelligence Déjà to give the order round them up. Several retrieval teams proceeded to kidnap and replace the children, including Riz, with flash clones,[3] with the children placed into cryostatis and rushed straight to the planet Reach.[4]

TrainingEdit

Once awoken from cryostasis on Reach at the Reach Naval Officers Academy, shortly before 2300 hours on September 23, Riz-028 and seventy-four other children were led into an amphitheater through four sets of double doors, each accompanied by a naval drill instructor. With Doctor Catherine Halsey, and Chief Petty Officer Franklin Mendez waiting for them on the stage. Halsey proceeded to tell the Spartans the truth about why they were taken and that they will be busy the following day.[4]

Around 0530 hours on September 24, Riz and the other candidates were woken and were formally introduced to Chief Petty Officer Mendez and the rest of the instructors. The seventy-five candidates proceeded to go though their first day of training. Mendez and the instructors put the candidates through exercises, eventually taking them for a run around the campus taking them to the entrance of the Naval Academy. At the end of the run the candidates were introduced to the Artificial Intelligence Déjà, who stated she will be the candidates teacher, and began to teach them for the day after they entered the building. Déjà proceeded to teach the candidates about Thermopylae, and the 300 Spartans who battled the Persians at the Battle of Thermopylae. After class, the candidates were taken by Chief Petty Officer Mendez to "the playground", where the play played a game of Ring the Bell with the losing team not getting dinner, where Riz's team didn't lose the game.[5] The next day on September 25, the candidates were taught about wolves and how they work together to get their pray from Déjà, when played Ring the Bell in the playground after class.[5] On September 28, 2517; the Spartans were given hair cuts.[6]

During one of the training operations on July 12, 2519, each Spartan trainee was dropped off at a different point in the preserve and was tasked with reaching an extraction point; the last Spartan to reach the point was to be left behind and forced to walk back. After being dropped off, the Spartans regrouped and made their way to the extraction point together. Upon reaching the point, the Spartans encountered a squad of UNSC Marines. When candidate Samuel-034 feigned an injury before the Marines, one of them moved to attack him. However, as part of their plan, the rest of the Spartans attacked the Marine by throwing rocks at him and knocked him unconscious. The Spartans then enacted a similar plan on the rest of the Marines and eventually defeated the entire squad. Afterwards, the Spartans reached a D96-TCE Albatross and, with Déjà's help, commandeered the dropship and left the training preserve.[7]

On August 22, 2524, the Spartans were rerouted to a Special Forces camp on the other side of reach due to interested parties within the Office of Naval Intelligence.[8] On March 9, 2525, the Spartans began their augmentations.[9]

Human-Covenant WarEdit

Riz and the other members of Omega Team on Arcadia.

By 2531, Riz-028 had been assigned to Omega Team, a fast-reaction team of Spartan super-soldiers deployed to colony worlds under attack where their missions involved denying the enemy critical resources, data, and personnel—by any means necessary. At this point, Omega Team was composed of Riz-028, Leon-011, Robert-025, August-099, Kai-125 and Vannak-134.[1]

When the planet Arcadia fell under attack by the Covenant on February 9, 2531, Riz and the rest of Omega Team was deployed to an unknown location on the planet.[10] Meanwhile, Jerome, Alice, and Douglas of Red Team were tasked with defending the capital, Arcadia City.[11] Omega Team was eventually redirected to the outskirts of Arcadia City to reinforce Red Team and Marine forces from the UNSC Spirit of Fire. Following a twenty-minute delay, Omega Team reinforced their beleaguered comrades and swiftly drove the Covenant from the capital.[10]

After Arcadia, Omega Team would not have the same team composition again until 2540 when the team was deployed for operations on Hellas. Following this, Riz was reassigned to form Silver Team alongside Kai-125 and Vannak-134.[1]

EquipmentEdit

At some point, Riz-028 wore a set of black Mark IV MJOLNIR.[1]

  • Omega Team first appeared as a six-member Spartan-II fireteam in the Halo Wars mission Arcadia Outskirts; however, their identities were not established within the game. It was later revealed that three members of this incarnation of Omega Team were named August-099, Leon-011, and Robert-025, leaving fans to continue to speculate on the identities of the remaining three members. During the airing of Halo: The Television Series Season Two, the remaining three members were established to be Riz-028, Kai-125, and Vannak-134, marking the characters' first appearance in the core canon.[1]
