A Primary Pioneer Group was a Forerunner organization that searched for habitable planets. Advance Survey Team-Alpha was apparently part of the group.[1]

A Primary Pioneer Group was sent to G617 g1 to observe the ecosystem of the planet, and it was there they encountered the Flood. The group disappeared shortly after this encounter. Advance Survey Team-Alpha was sent shortly after to investigate their disappearance.
