Outpost Tremonius (location)

This article is about the location. For the Halo Infinite campaign level, see Outpost Tremonius.

"Our great victory at the human stronghold is complete, Tremonius. You led our forces well. Atriox would be proud. To mark our triumph, local forces will begin at once to establish a new outpost — the first of many on the hallowed ground of our new home. We will build this fortress in the very shadow of their failure. A monument to their frailty and cowardice. Where so many of their kind were cut down. Escharum has decreed it be named in your honor, Tremonius. So that it may inspire other leaders to do what you have done. All that remains of the humans are scattered remnants. And so the hunt carries on, until the last human skull is crushed. Thanks to your efforts, that day is rapidly approaching."
Arthoc's transmission to Tremonius.[1]

Outpost Tremonius was a Banished Forward Operating Base established on the fragmented section of Installation 07 during the Battle for Zeta Halo and commanded by its namesake, the Jiralhanae Warlord Tremonius. The outpost was built around the crash site of the UNSC Mortal Reverie, which had crash-landed on Installation 07 during the space battle above the ring. The outpost has changed hands more than once during the battle on Installation 07, and is currently serving as a UNSC FOB.[2]

HistoryEdit

On December 15, 2559, Spartan Vedrana Makovich came across the Reverie's wreckage and decided to designate the crash site as the rendezvous point for the other UNSC survivors.[3] For the next month and a half, the UNSC used the Reverie crash site as their primary base of operations on Installation 07. However, on January 31, 2560, following Spartan Hudson Griffin's failed assassination attempt on War Chief Escharum,[4] the Banished, led by then-Chieftain Tremonius and Captain Arthoc, launched an assault on the Reverie.[5] On February 2, 2560, the remaining UNSC personnel at the Reverie, faced with overwhelming numbers of Banished troops and armor, abandoned the crash site and scattered themselves across the fragmented section of Installation 07.[6]

Following their conquest of the Reverie, the Banished built a forward operating base around the crash site. Escharum rewarded Tremonius for his victory by giving him command of the outpost and naming it after him.[1] The Banished tossed most of the ship's supplies into the chasm, and deployed their prefabricated outpost structures around the far side of the broken UNSC vessel, including a heavily fortified landing platform. They have also excavated new egress points below the mountain for access from one side of the crash site to the other.[7] In the months that followed, the Banished utilized Outpost Tremonius not only as a military base, but also as an excavation site for Forerunner artifacts, including the Harbinger's cylix.[8] On April 18, under the orders of War Chief Escharum, Itacus forced Lucas Browning to interface with the cylix,[9][10] releasing the Xalanyn known as the "Harbinger" from stasis.[11]

On April 23, Escharum transferred half of the troops stationed at Outpost Tremonius to Site Novem to support the excavation of the Conservatory.[12] Meanwhile, having observed a ship from Escharum's personal flying towards the wreckage, the boat crew investigated the outpost. While Spartans Bonita Stone and Nina Kovan scouted out the newly-constructed outpost,[7] the non-Spartan members of the boat crew made a supply run to scavenge from a ledge that caught some of the supplies the Banished had thrown into the chasm below the outpost.[13] Although the Spartans discovered Browning was being held captive at the outpost's landing pad, they were unable to rescue him.[7] The two Spartans were forced to split up; while Kovan reunited with the rest of the boat crew at the camp they had set up, the Banished was tracking Stone closely. Stone decided to investigate the Banished excavation.[14] Inside the outpost, Stone found that the Banished has unearthed cylix, which were artifacts she has never seen before.[12]

By April 26, Stone had infiltrated the underground Forerunner structures near Outpost Tremonius, having seen the artifacts up close and determined them to be stasis pods. She made one final transmission to Makovich and Sorel, reporting her findings, but stopped short when she realized that she was not alone.[8] Stone came across the excavationled by Blademaster Jega 'Rdomnai and the Bloodstar Gorian for the ring's Conspectus network hubs. She managed to steal the data node and had her personal AI Ouco copy the data and then corrupt the node. During her escape, however, Stone was ambushed and killed by 'Rdomnai. As Stone's last act, she removed the corrupted data node which was taken by Gorian and 'Rdomnai to Escharum, unaware of Stone's sabotage.[14] The next day, the boat crew infiltrated Tremonius Outpost, killing multiple guards before taking the elevator into the subterranean Forerunner structure below. There, they found Stone's body and a grieving Kovan retrieved Stone's data chip, which proved to contain the data that she had stolen from the Banished. However, with Banished forces closing in, the boat crew reluctantly left Stone's body behind. Submonitor 091 Adjutant Veridity later revealed that the stolen data pertains ring's defensive systems and its current coordinates, giving the team the chance to broadcast a message to the UNSC for reinforcements.[13]

Circa May 28, John-117, who had been presumed dead since the battle above the ring, infiltrated the subterranean structure underneath Outpost Tremonius in order to retrieve the Weapon. Upon learning of the Master Chief's return, Tremonius descended to the subterranean structure to kill the Spartan. However, the Master Chief killed Tremonius, and then made his way to the surface, where he single-handedly defeated the Banished guarding the outpost. The Weapon then erased the outpost's location from the Banished's battle net, thereby reclaiming it for the UNSC.[15][2]

After defeating both Escharum and The Harbinger, John-117 and the Weapon returned to Outpost Tremonius.[16]
