Order of battle for Viery, Reach.

"We are now under attack across the Viery territory, including orbital defenses. As per the Winter Contingency, we are countering on every front."
Auntie Dot[1]

During the Fall of Reach, the order of battle for operations in the Viery Territory on Reach on August 12th, 2552, comprised many units from the UNSC Army and Marine Corps. Air support was provided by Navy warships and A/X craft, while airlift came from the Air Force. Over the course of the battle, three Army brigades and numerous Marine rifle and shock infantry battalions would both defend against and counterattack the Covenant in Viery. Elements of this joint force participated in the Battle at Szurdok Ridge, where they attempted to prevent the Covenant from gaining a foothold on Reach.[1]

Based on the organizational structure of the units involved, approximately 6,700 soldiers and an equal or greater number of Marines were deployed across the theater.[Note 1]

Notes

  1. ^ Judging by the numbers of regiments in the three brigades, it is likely that the UNSC Army uses an organization similar to British and Commonwealth regiments. Based on that particular unit hierarchy, these formations have at least a minimum of 500 soldiers serving within each of these regiments. Alternately, the Army may use the Brigade Combat Team organization first used in the early 21st century by the United States Army judging by the number of regiments/battalions and companies within each of the brigades. Based modern U.S. Marine Corps organization, at least 800 to 1,200 Marines and sailors serve within a single battalion, resulting in anywhere between 6,400 and 9,600 Marines may have participated in the Viery campaign.
