Intro

Hello Halopedia! In this segment we will meet Halo-343, the Halopedian of the Month for January. Below are some questions that will let us get to know him a little better.

News

Question #1: When did you join Halopedia, and what persuaded you to join?

Answer #1: I joined Halopedia on June 1st 2008, but had discovered the site about a month previously. I had not joined for that month for technical reasons I'm not quite sure about, that wouldn't let me join. I finally cracked the disruption on my computer on June 1st, and quickly joined. I was pretty excited, and needed a name fast, so conjured up "Halo-343" off the top of my head. If I had joined around now, I would probably have named myself "Mr Guymanwatch", my most used online name.

Sorry, I'm getting off track here. I was drawn to Halopedia, because I was a new fan to the series and was amazed by it all. Seeing a full, well written encyclopedia that I could be a part of, I couldn't resist.

Question #2: What do you believe are your most valued contributions to Halopedia?

Answer #2: I would have to say my continued service on the frontlines of the war against vandalism, as cliche as and odd as that sentence sounded. I'm also quite frequent in updating information, and correcting mistakes and discrepancies.

Question #3: What is your favorite Halo game?

Answer #3: I would have to say Halo 2. I love the game's opening segment: the film-like cutscene of Thel 'Vadamee's trial, the fast paced and explosive Battle of Earth. The whole concept of space travel and combat is what I love most about Halo, so naturally I would be drawn to Halo 2.

Question #4: Pie or Cake?

Answer #4: Hmmm, an interesting question. Pie, with its many delicious fruity fillings? Or cake, with its wide variety of toppings and icings, and its role as a plot device in Portal? I have engaged in deep discussions with many a philosopher over this question and my answer is still left, being decided in the depths of my mind.

Question #5: If you were to nominate a user for RfA, who would it be?

Answer #5: Another interesting question. Users off the top of my head would probably be Jugus or General5 7, though if I thought about it some more, I could find a few more. Between the two, I would have to say Jugus. He's extremely active and makes fantastic contributions, and I only voted against his previous RfA because he was not quite ready then, but is now. If General5 7 were a bit more active, she would be Admin material too.

Question #6: What do you like most about the Halopedia community?

Answer #6: A vague question, I'm not quite sure how to answer that. I think the IRC is a great way to get the community in discussion and get Halopedia moving in the right direction, if that's the kind of question you're asking. I also think the Halopedia News Service is a great way to get news about the Halo and Halopedia communities heard.

Question #7: What would you like to improve about Halopedia?

Answer #7: Well, I think Halopedia could do with more Administrators or helpers of some sort, because although we have eleven Admins, about four of them are very inactive and I've seen many a vandalism, stupid contribution and false piece of info slip past the Admins and Rollback users for up to days at a time.

I also recently discovered that Halopedia once had a Podcast, which stopped about two years ago. I have great expressed interest in reviving it recently and would like to see how it does during this flood of Halo content.

Question #8: If you could pick one real world job occupation, what would it be?

Answer #8: I'll be honest; I don't know. I've been pondering what job I want for years and still have no definite answer. I still have a few years to decide, so I'm not particularly bothered at the moment. I'm pretty talented when it comes to drawing, but wouldn't like to make a career out of it. I'm also quite good at acting and voicework, a career I am considering.

Question #9: What communities are you associated with online, Halo and otherwise?

Answer #9: Well, I have Xbox LIVE, if that counts. I also have a Bungie.net account, which I rarely use. Other than that, Halopedia is about it.

Question #10: If you had a chance to become an admin, would you accept it?

Answer #10: If I were say, offered it tomorrow, I would probably say no. I may be HoTM material right now, but I'm not quite at Admin level yet. There are many other users that deserve it more than me and could do a better job, such as the ones mentioned above. But if I keep things up, and improve a little more, I would say yes.

Question #11: Is there anything else you would like to say about yourself?:

Answer #11: My favourite series are Halo, Metal Gear, Half-Life, Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank. My favourite band is Queen and favourite composer is Marty O' Donnell. My favourite writers are Anthony Horowitz, J.K. Rowling and Eric Nylund. I hand draw a comic book series in my spare time and my favourite TV show is House.

Conclusion

Well, that was certainly informative. Thanks to Halo-343 for doing the interview and be sure to vote in this month's HotM.

You stay frosty Halopedia!
