UNSC Marines faces off with a Scarab in the industrial zone.

The New Mombasa industrial zone[1] was a district in the city of New Mombasa, Kenya, located on Mombasa Island. Sector B and Kilindini were located within the industrial zone, with New Mombasa's docks situated at Kilindini Harbor southwest of the area.[2][1]

Overview

Geography

The Kilindini Underpass of the highway NM 105 E, beginning at the northwestern end of Mombasa's suspension bridge, resurfaced in the middle of the industrial area.x The district was split in half by the Shimanzi Road.[1]

Culture

Architecture

Unlike the southeastern side of the island which housed sleek, gleaming corporate skyscrapers, the industrial zone was home to rugged industrial complexes of a more utilitarian design.[2]

History

Human-Covenant war

During the Battle of Mombasa, the industrial zone saw heavy fighting between the UNSC and the Covenant ground forces deployed by the Solemn Penance holding position over the city. Several UNSC units had been assigned to defend the area in the past weeks, including UNSC Army personnel and E2-BAG/1/7 of the UNSC Marine Corps.[1] After successfully crossing the bridge, UNSC Marine forces led by John-117 pushed on through fortified Covenant positions in the Kilindini Underpass.[2] Making their way through a portion of the city's sewer system, they resurfaced near the Kilindini Park Cultural Center and used Warthogs to push their way through the park, Mwatate Street Transit Center and Shimanzi Road to a UNSC outpost in the Palace Hotel.[1] After eliminating Covenant heavy armor in the area, John-117 eventually reached a Marine command post in a Mtangulizi Kampuni building at the heart of the industrial center, just as a Covenant Scarab arrived. The walker made its way over the building, into a network of canals on the other side. Eventually, the Scarab became trapped in the canals and was destroyed by John-117.[2]
