The Mythic Map Packs are a two-packaged map collection created by Bungie for Halo 3. The Mythic Map Pack was released on April 9, 2009 and the Mythic II Map Pack was released on February 2, 2010, with both originally retailing for 800 Microsoft Points.[1][2] On July 7, 2017, along with all other Halo 3, Halo 4, and Halo: Reach DLC map packs, the Mythic Map Packs were made free to those on Xbox Live.[3]

Summary

The icon of the Mythic Map Packs is an alternate version of the difficulty icon known as Mythic. The knives are replaced with Battle Rifles and the Mythic Skull replaces the Elite Skull. It is to be noted that Mythic has been known as a non-existent difficulty above Legendary, though Bungie has mentioned it several times on Bungie.net.

Mythic Map Pack

"The long-awaited Mythic Map Pack drops into Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Investigate Orbital’s abandoned hallways - before it was evacuated, the Quito Space Tether was heralded as the “Civil Engineering Monument of the Millennium.” Witness Assembly, where Scarab hulls loom overhead, being decontaminated in preparation for the city-sized Lekgolo colonies that will breathe life into the massive metal husks. An excavation site surrounded by deadly Forerunner defenses, the mysteries of Sandbox are hidden high above, deep below, and right before your eyes."
— Marketplace description.[4]

The first part of the Mythic Map Pack is a Halo 3 DLC map pack, which includes three multiplayer maps, Assembly, Orbital, and Sandbox. It was released with the launch of Halo Wars, but it is only included with the Limited Edition of the game. The map pack was released in Asia and Australia on February 26, in Europe and Africa on February 27, and in the Americas, on March 3, with the Limited Edition version of Halo Wars.[5] On March 23, 2009 Microsoft confirmed April 9, 2009 as the release date for Mythic as downloadable content (DLC) on Xbox Live for 800 Microsoft Points. In July, 2010 the price dropped to 400 Microsoft Points.[6]

Mythic II Map Pack

"The final three Halo 3 multiplayer maps from Halo 3: ODST make their standalone debut on Marketplace. If you’ve yet to complete the Halo 3 multiplayer set, here’s your chance. Heretic returns players to familiar ground, Halo 2’s Midship, while Citadel forces small squads to stay in constant communication and Longshore’s multitude of industrial buildings, elevated walks, and open inlets conspire to create a complex battleground tailored for multiple combat scenarios."
— Marketplace description.[2]

The second Mythic Map Pack, titled "Mythic II Map Pack", was included on Halo 3: Mythic, the multiplayer disc included with Halo 3: ODST, which was released on September 22, 2009. The second package includes the maps Longshore, Heretic and Citadel. The second map pack was made available as a DLC by February 2, 2010.[2]
