Manufacturer(s):

Watershed Division[1]

Type:

The MIRAGE-class helmet is the default helmet of the Semi-Powered Infiltration armor commonly worn by the United Nations Space Command's Spartan-IIIs during and after the Human-Covenant War.[1] At some point, the armor—including the MIRAGE-class helmet—was upgraded to be compatible with Mark VI MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor, becoming MIRAGE-class Mjolnir.[2]

Overview

Design details

The Mirage-class helmet features a large, bulbous visor that is normally a mirrored gold.[3] and can be depolarized.[4] The helmet supports a heads-up display with features similar to that incorporated into MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor, including TACMAP, TEAMBIO, and TEAMCOM interfaces; a motion tracker;[5] as well as team status lights.[6][7][8] The visor suite features an automatic magnification and image enhancement system controlled by the wearer's eye movements. For example, if the wearer squints while looking at a particular spot the system will automatically zoom in.[9] Both the image enhancement and the visor's internal polarization can also be controlled manually.[10][11] The helmet possesses tactical lights<[12] and a defogging vent to remove internal moisture.[13]

Development history

As with the entire base variant of Semi-Powered Infiltration armor, the MIRAGE-class helmet was developed by the Office of Naval Intelligence's Watershed Division prior to the armor being issued to SPARTAN-III Alpha Company early in the Human-Covenant War.[1] Sometime after the introduction of MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/Mark VI in October 2552, the MIRAGE-class helmet was upgraded to be compatible with this system.[2]
