Nomination

I, Phil.e., nominate CommanderTony for adminship of Halopedia.
Nominee, please accept or defer the above nomination below this line.

I, CommanderTony, gladly accept this nomination for administratorship.

  1. Strong Support as nominator. Phil.e. [Talk to me] 01:16, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
  2. Weak Support - Somewhat premature, in my opinion, as we just passed an administrator a week or less ago, and I'd prefer to wait until post-Halo 3 launch before having another administrator on-hand to help govern the influx of new users for H3 and HW. However, in the past, CommanderTony has shown exceptional knowledge of UNSC information and article-creation, and is a very lively community member. =] Good luck! If he can get these things done, I think he definitely deserves to be an Admin. But if he doesn't do what he said he would do when he does become an Admin, then I say his Administrator status should be removed. 3. My experiences with this user's personality have been overwhelmingly positive, but my experiences working with him as a contributor have been frusterating.
    1. On numerous occasions I have been frusterated with an inability or unwillingness on the user's part to communicate and/or back up the sources behind the information he adds to the wiki. One example of this has been our recent edit war over the List of UNSC Military Units page, which contunues to this day for reasons I do not at all understand.
    2. Another problem I have had with him as a contributor is his organization of articles. The user creates a large number of articles but does not always sort them in the correct categories or update pages where they would be listed. An example of this would be the Characters page and categories, which has not been updated with recent information, but no one else can do it, because no one else knows where to find all the relavent articles which need adding.
    3. I have noticed occasionally that the user also removes valid, sourced information from articles without any apparent reason, but this is not a major issue.
My opinions on these matters, are, as always, not necessarily correct because I do not see everything, and I am very open to changing my opinion should it be necessary. --EDFile:ArmyROTC.gif|15px]] 18:39, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
ED, this is also my major concern. While CommanderTony has a very friendly and welcoming personality, often his organization of articles is somewhat frustrating to me as well. Regards, RelentlessRecusant 'o the Halopedia Team TALKMESSAGE 00:16, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
For backing up sources, I always give a clear indication of what the sources are and where I got them from. In the past, I have ignored sourcing, but now I see that it is vital to Halopedia's articles. As for organization, I have now started to categorize not only my own articles, but other members articles. File:CommanderTony Logo.PNG|25px]]UoH|General]] TonyTalk 1/04/2008

With all due respect, I must say that Having articles cleanup, anti-vandalism and developing and editing articles are part of why we're here. We're here to discuss, share our knowledge, he just says he would have articles cleanup or improved (if that's what he means), it wouldn't be a good idea to have him as admin after all. And if I remember correctly, it sounds as though he wouldn't be checking Halopedia daily if he isn't promoted to admin. ΜΆŜΤΈŖČΗέÏΣΡΈΤΤΥОΓΓïČëŗ 10:08, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

That's doesn't means I hated you, CT, I just think you might want to improve Halopedia by other means, like setting up policies. ΜΆŜΤΈŖČΗέÏΣΡΈΤΤΥОΓΓïČëŗ 13:18, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

on the lines of halopedia falling to shit i have to agree 110%, as a fairly competent editor of wikipedia(you can find a link to my profile on my user page) i stumbled across to here looking @ armor permutations and realized how shitty the article is and have taken it upon my self to patrol the page and keep it in fairly decent condition (CT did come in and helped fix the article up A LOT and was able to convert it into what i see as a true wiki article and for that im thankful but thats not the point of my rant), i have done some looking through of some pages on Halopedia and have found some articles that have absolutely no need to have its own article, and when i confront a admin about this i am told that 'everything deserves its own page' and it makes me really wonder why we need pages like this when it can as easily be merged into the bottom of the article about the vehicle its self (possibly in a section called 'known Elephant vehicles in existence' or something along the lines of that), this place is clearly falling apart from not only the outside in (every anon editor popping in and adding personal opinion, unverified claims or undoing stuff that clearly has a purpose) and the inside out (admins who refuse to do stuff that makes perfectly common sense such as merge an article that has one sentence (and before anyone attempts to rebuttals at this, no i am not suggesting in this that every single metal/award in matchmaking be merged into one article, as they are all important in there own way, you could even add on to the articles themselves(of metals) and explain good strategy to easily obtain them, possible references to where they came from, or who has mentioned them in RvB or where ever) in it that imho prob would not even last 35 seconds on wikipedia after it were to be brought to an admins attention) now i know that there is not much that we can do about anon editors (besides protect articles) because this is a wiki and basically the founding principle is that ANYONE can edit it, but i am telling you all now that if something is not done about the rampant anon editors, the unused pages, and policies that should be there, then this site is going to only get worse... personally i have some major ideas that i think that if implemented would greatly improve the way things work around here but i know that either i will never be taken seriously as to most of you i am prob viewed as a noob, that i am considered over zealous, or w/e other reason you want to make up as to the fact that my claims are not true(in your eyes)
but to put all that aside i think that halopedia has serious potential and could be an AMAZING wiki if certain things would be done ASAP, if anyone is interested in what i have to say then feel free to message me on my talk page and as soon as i can I'll start writing up what needs to be done, for now tho I've got to end this post so that i can start writing what needs to be done, peace.. Ancientanubis 16:38, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Ancientanubis, perhaps you were not aware, but Halopedia is not Wikipedia. We have our own rules and guidelines here, which are all-inclusionist in dealing with the creation of articles. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia about the world, where only notable things deserve articles, but a cardinal rule on Halopedia is that everything related to Halo deserves an article. This idea is very true of many topic-specific wikis, because people who come here have the interest and we have the space to add everything imaginable on the subject.
Another important thing to consider is that Administrators are not the editors, owners, or god-kings of Halopedia. Content on articles is intended to be added and edited by users, and it is not possible for the admins to view and edit every single contribution, particularly when we have a much smaller community to maintain the wiki. It is just as much your job as a contributor as it is mine to see that speculation, poor grammar, and unverified nonsense (which I agree is annoying and demeaning to the wiki) are kept out. --EDFile:ArmyROTC.gif|15px]] 18:48, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
AncientAnubis has a point. That elephant type article seems totally irrelevant to me. But if you want articles that have ANYTHING TO DO WITH HALO, I might as well make a Plasma bolt article right now. And I should also make a new article for every color of plasma bolts. I should also make an article for the wheel on a Warthog, and perhaps an article about Fire, noting the way that carbon particles light up and make fire appear the way that it does. After all, fire is in Halo, is it not? Maybe while I'm at it I'll add lightning bolts, water, air, water particles in the air, clouds, and everything else that you can see in Halo. I'm probably annoying you by now, listing all of these stupid things that I can make an article out of. Which is my point. Why make a rule that "each thing should have its own article". Why not just make seperate sections for subjects that have to do with the same main subject in an article? Like that plasma bolts thing. Why not have it as a section in Plasma Weapons? Or whatever. And the colors of plasma bolts could be described in that same section, don't you think? And fire, water, and air, those could be left to Wikipedia, yes? Why not just use common sense and merge articles where necessary, making subjects that include that one sentence, instead of making an entirely new article for that one sentence? Things will get hectic if you keep that absurd rule. Most things should have their own article, yes, but not little bits of information that could be easily included in articles that not only relate to the information, but are about the SAME THING.
Consider that, eh? —Jaeryd 18:43, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
You seem to be agreeing with us and then disagreeing at the same time, so let me make the policy a little more clear (before I do write a policy about it, finally). Halopedia keeps articles of the same subject matter in the same article. Everything within the article should pretain to its title. Why isn't UNSC Euphrates included in the Frigate article, even though it is a small article? because though the Euphrates is a frigate, the fact that it is does not mean it should be included in the Frigate article. That article is about frigates in general, whereas the Euphrates articles covers the information known about the history of one individual frigate. It is the same way with the Elephant articles. "Elephant" details the specifications of the Elephant in general, whereas the other article details the information on one single elephant. Just beacause we know little about it does not mean it isn't important.
One of the reasons we do this is because there is a division within the people that view Halopedia. Some of them just play the Halo games and are only interested in the Elephant's purpose as a game vehicle, but others are interested in the expanded universe and like to know all the facts about everything canon. So, that is how we make article on subjects. --EDFile:ArmyROTC.gif|15px]] 00:40, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Questions

Nominee, if you accept the nomination, please answer the following questions. It is advised that voters check the nominee's responses before voting.

  1. When did you join Halopedia? August 7th, 2006
  2. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to Halopedia? Probably any and all edits for UNSC-related articles. I'm also currently ranked seventh in the list of editors by mainspace edits
  3. What do you believe are your most valued technical contributions to Halopedia?I've made several edits to templates being used on articles, really just adding and edited up-to-date info. As well as created numerous awards and userboxes for the community.
  4. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to the community? Helping out and starting the UoH's Dingo Company, as well as beginning to organize a Halo 3 Release Get together for Halopedia.
  5. What is your expertise with programming languages, if any? I've got some minor experiences with HTML, though coming this fall, i'll have much more knowledge in HTML and other programming languages.
  6. Do you administrate any other Wikia? If so, which? I am currently administrating Vektapedia, a wikia related to Killzone. Though my efforts are hindered by my PlayStation 2 being broke down.
  7. If you are administrated, what changes do you propose? I will propose a few things. Such as a major cleanup project aiming to make the "Articles needing Cleanup" template go to waste. As well as a project aiming to delete all un-used pictures, userboxes, templates, and files.
  8. To the best of your understanding, what does administratorship entail? I think that an administrator's job should be of an example for other Halopedians to follow.
  9. To the best of your understanding, when will you be able to check Halopedia after you are administrated, in the event that you are? Almost everyday. Though school, football, and JROTC might sometimes interfere. But after October, i'm Halopedia Property once again.
  10. What communities are you associated with online, Halo and otherwise? Well of course Halopedia, as well as Bungie.net, Halo Babies, MilitaryPhotos.net, and Charlie Oscar Delta.
  11. What is your familiarity with the Halo universe? I've read and played everything Halo related besides the I Love Bees saga. Though I still try my best to edit those articles.
  12. What is your familiarity with Wikia and Halopedia policies? I am pretty well familiar with both rule sets.
  13. What is your relationship with the Halopedia community and current administration? For our community, I log onto our IRC Chatroom almost daily, as well as try to play in some online games with members. As for our administration, I enjoy talking to them, and would absolutely enjoy talking to them more if my RfA is accepted.
  14. How may users contact you? If you look on my User Page, there is a wide amount of ways they can contact me, such as MySpace and Gmail. And if you have neither, i'll gladly read and reply any messages you leave on my User Talk Page.

Well what I mean is maybe have a contest to try to empty the "Category:Articles needing cleanup" page. I'm not saying we have to make it go to waste, because it probably never will. But i'm talking about having a major cleanup effort. Possibly this fall after hundreds of user post new articles and edits that aren't up to Halopedia's standards.
