Halopedia:Projects/Halo Language Project/Covenant Halo 4 Cipher
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
The Covenant Halo 4 Ciper is a cipher for the Covenant used by 343i. It was introduced around Halo 4.
How it was cracked[edit]
To start off numbers were cracked though the Mosa-pattern carbine in Halo 4. This was due to the Carbine having symbols that went from 18 to zero.
The cipher was introduced via marketing for Halo 4 in trailers such as the Halo 4: Covenant Weapons; and Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.
Through a lot of trial and error it was realised that the symbols actually were an alphabet.
Leading to fans understanding that for example the image above read "7 Reclamation".
Letters started to come in from various sources, such as Halo 4, Halo 5, even Halo Infinite. Fans over time built an alphabet slowly whenever letters came up. Eventually getting us a full alphabet.
It wasn't until we realised that there was a "Covenant Style Guide" shown in The Sprint Episode 2 "Give and Take".
Which matched the Alphabet and Numbers we worked out. Leading to the cipher being cracked.
Further notes[edit]
Some fans noticed there was three different type of symbols. These don't effect the cipher, and seem to be more akin to fonts this cipher uses.
Top line to bottom line
- Halo 5 Guardians Forge calls them: Standard, Technical, Transitional, with the smaller triangles called Ticks.
- Halo Infinite Forge calls them: Covenant Glyph, Covenant Tech Glyph, Covenant Outline Glyph, and doesn't name the smaller triangles.
