- Troy Denning began work on Halo: Shadows of Reach in 2019.[2] In the first draft of the novel in the first chapter, Troy Denning had Kelly-087 listening to the song Killer Queen.[3]
- The cover art was illustrated by Chris McGrath[1][4], who also illustrated the earlier cover of Halo: Silent Storm[5]. The composition of the artwork echoes the original release cover art of Halo: The Fall of Reach.
