Official summary[edit]

With Dr. Chen, a dangerous ex-ONI scientist, in her sights, Spartan Linda-058 and her AI companion must find a way to end the threat posed by Chen and evacuate the endangered humans in the settlement. But as the Covenant prepare to stage an assault, Linda discovers that Chen holds the key to a secret that could endanger all of humanity if it fell into the wrong hands.[2]

Plot synopsis[edit]

To ensure that the Promise survivors' camp is secure, Linda chases down fleeing Unggoy, finding herself at odds with Athos for her choices thus far in the execution of their mission. The Spartan took down the surviving Grunt fleeing the camp and destroyed its vehicle. However, it was able to send a partial message to its Elite commanders, alerting them to her presence on the world. As they plot to destroy the humans' camp, it becomes apparent that the Covenant forces aren't the ones blocking the survivors' communications from the planet.

Returning to the camp, Linda informs Chen that the Covenant are aware of their presence and that they need to evacuate. When Chen gives his people the choice, they refuse to leave. Linda leaves Athos in the computer systems for the camp, and sets off with Shel towards the Prowler. With the Spartan's pace hampered by Shel, Hala had already destroyed the ship when the pair of them arrive, telling them of a discovery that Chen had made.

Upon returning to the camp, Linda was unaware of Chen's whereabouts and ordered Athos to find him. However, Athos informed Linda that their mission parameters had changed. He had discovered the existence of an AI believed lost with the Promise, the only AI to contain a complete record of human history. Retrieving the AI had now become the entirety of their mission.
