The Desecration of Ulgethon was a year long violent conflict between the San'Shyuum Reformists and the Sangheili on the rocky world of Ulgethon. It marked the start of the War of Beginnings.[1]

History

In 938 BCE, The Reformist San'Shyuum first encountered the Sangheili on their frontier world of Ulgethon. Although the two species shared a common reverence toward the Forerunners, both species had ideological differences regarding the treatment of Forerunner technology. Like the San'Shyuum Stoics, the Sangheili believed that Forerunner relics were not to be modified in any way and considered the San'Shyuum's reverse-engineering of artifacts as blasphemy, punishable by death. Upon discovering the San'Shyuum's sacrilegious intent to excavate a hidden repository of Forerunner artifacts on Ulgethon, the Sangheili turned against the invaders and executed a delegation sent by San'Shyuum, sparking hostilities over the planet.[2] During their first battle, the Sangheili courageously faced off against the San'Shyuum's powerful Forerunner Dreadnought from warrens and ridges across Ulgethon, using the most formidable weapons of war they could then fashion.[3] The conflict on the planet lasted an entire year and left Ulgethon a charred husk filled with fallen warriors and shattered ships. The Desecration of Ulgethon marked the beginning of the decades-long war between the two alien species.[1]
