POINTER is a code name adopted by a member of the United Nations Space Command who was assigned to the UNSC Infinity in December 2559.
Biography
Installation 07

On December 12, 2559, POINTER was onboard UNSC Infinity when it was ambushed by Banished forces upon arrival at Installation 07. As the Infinity fell to the Banished assault, POINTER made landfall on the ring's surface. Over the course of the Installation 07 conflict, POINTER recovered and relayed several transmissions from other UNSC survivors on the ring,[1] with POINTER noting their observations when making retransmissions to the UNSC Comms/Message Recovery Cache.[2] In one particular retransmission, they reported that Installation 07 was transported away from Ephsu system when an explosion on the surface fragmented the ring.[3] While moving between hidings spots on the ring, POINTER also tried pinging IFF tags to locate other survivors, with little success.[4]
At some point, POINTER recovered a transmission between two marines that attempted to sabotage the enemy's comms array at the Banished outpost Horn of Abolition. Although the sabotage failed, POINTER identified a vulnerability in the damaged comms array, allowing POINTER to send polyband burst transmission at cycling intervals, in an attempt to reach FIXER and allow FIXER to key in on enough of the cypher to relay the UNSC data from Installation 07.[5]
POINTER remained active after February 2, 2560, when UNSC survivors at the wreckage of UNSC Mortal Reverie retreated from the Banished assault at the crash site.[6][7] Prior to May 28,[8] they recovered a transmission between two marines that had observed a member of a never-seen-before species among the Banished.[9]
