Nomination

I nominate Commander12X as a candidate for an administrator position on Halo Nation.

Dab1001 15:14, June 22, 2017 (UTC)

Nominee, please accept or defer the above nomination below this line.

I accept this nomination. Commander12X (talk) 04:42, June 23, 2017 (UTC)

Reason for Nomination

Commander12X has proven himself to be a dedicated contributor to Halo Nation, over years of consistent editing of the mainspace wiki. He is one of the wiki's most regular editors, and I believe he would make an excellent addition to our admin team.

Questions

Nominee, if you accept the nomination, please answer the following questions. It is advised that voters check the nominee's responses before voting.

1. When did you join Halo Nation?

I joined Halo Nation on November 11th, 2012, roughly five years ago.

2. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to Halo Nation?

I personally believe that my most valued contributions in terms of specific articles are the current states of the Reach and Fall of Reach pages. The time and effort put into those two articles has helped shape not only their own information into detailed and easy to follow articles, but also created styles that could be applicable to other pages of the same type by me or others. They have also spawned several other articles on their own, allowing for more information to be displayed.

3. What do you believe are your most valued technical contributions to Halo Nation?

The most valued technical contribution that I've made is likely the current style of the Halo Franchise page. It combines a variety of different Wikitext elements together including tables (which contain in-table headers, pictures, a lot of information on a variety of subjects with each table tuned to match each set of information, links to categories and a variety of other related articles) and tabbers to organize each table into relevant sections.

4. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to the community?

This is an area that I cannot point to any major contributions. I have not put much time into the community side of things. That's not to say I haven't replied to a few questions here and there or talked to people, it just hasn't been a huge focus for me. I am an information driven person and as such I have mainly focused on the articles themselves. I do believe this is a downside. I understand that this is a community driven site and so community interaction should be a bigger part of working on the site. As well, much more can get done on the wiki by talking to other people and pitching ideas. I do want to improve this so more can be done on the wiki.

5. If you are administrated, what changes do you propose?

One of the biggest changes I would propose is to create a standard for how information in articles of different types should be laid out. So for example, have information on a Battle page organized a certain way, have information on a character page organized a certain way and then standardize those formats to all Battle or Character pages. This is so that experienced and new editors have a way to create high quality articles much more easy. It can be quite difficult when you don't know where to start and how everything should flow. I do have quite a few other organizational ideas, but this is the biggest one I would like to see implemented.

6. To the best of your understanding, what does administratorship entail?

Administratorship entails a multitude of things, kind of like any leadership role. I think one of them would be to understand not only the topic (in our case the Halo Franchise) but how the website works on a technical level. This means understanding and being willing to help with more complex elements such as larger creations. Specifically in the case of the wiki this could be adding and editing infoboxes in Source text. Moreover, administratorship, I believe also entails morale raising. This can be achieved by leading by example (editing articles in grander projects or smaller corrections) and communication with others to any degree about a variety of subjects pertaining to the website as a whole, or smaller projects.

7. To the best of your understanding, when will you be able to check Halo Nation after you are administrated, in the event that you are?

I will continue to check in and make changes like I would before getting the admin privileges, so usually at least once per day. Though, likely with the position and some of the extra tools available, I could see myself getting on more.

8. What communities are you associated with online, Halo and otherwise?

Um, none that I can think of at the moment. I was active in a few other Wikis before hand though. Prior to the creation of this account, I would edit pages on the Alan Wake wiki. After I created this account, I did some editing on the Brink Wiki, the DayZ wiki, the Battlefield Wiki, the Metro Wiki and the GTA wiki. I do want to eventually do some edits on Wikipedia, however I haven't done that yet. So at the moment Halo Nation is the only community I am apart of.

9. What is your familiarity with the Halo universe?

I would say that I am quite familiar with the Halo Universe. I own and have played all the major released games in some form. On the book/comic front I am not too familiar with all released content. I own the digital copies of The Fall of Reach and Contact Harvest and some of the free digital samples of the other books and comics. I do own the physical version of Halo Wars: Genesis and the Halo 4: The Essential Visual Guide. I also attempt to keep up with as much of 343's releases on Waypoint as I can and read stuff on Halo Nation.

10. What is your familiarity with Wikia and Halo Nation policies?

I am quite familiar with the policies of Halo Nation especially on Style and Canon. I am definitely less familiar with Wikia's policies. As such, I am going to go back and familiarize myself with the specifics of the policies. And I will refer to them when needed.

11. What is your relationship with the Halo Nation community and current administration?

Like previously stated, I haven't done a ton of communication with the admins and others on Halo Nation. From the times I have talked to members of the administration, we seemed to get along well and I can only see improvements to this as we talk more and begin to work together more.

12. How may users contact you?

I think the best way would be on the Wall system that has been added. As stated before, I do expect to be on in the same way as before, so I should see it in a timely manner.
