I'd like to propose a minor update to how we deal with "real world" pages.

I have started to notice a few times where overlap is happening with "real world" and "in-universe" names. See 343 Industries (manufacturer) and 343 Industries. Over time and franchise growth we may start to see even bigger overlaps of names. The example above isnt ideal and users may get confused on them.

I'd like to propose that in cases where overlaps happen. The real world article will be moved to have (real world) after it to showcase that it is indeed the real world version of the article. With a link to the in-universe page at the top of the page (vice versa the in-universe page will link to the real world page at the top of the page.)

An almost perfect example would be on Memory-Alpha.

Would you all be alright with this change?

It may be worth considering thinking up a suffix for the in-universe ones as well, and then keeping the main page as a disambig page. For example:

  • 343 Industries - disambig page
  • 343 Industries (real world) - page on 343i
  • 343 Industries (in-universe) - page on the armour manufacturers.

Can't see why not.

Hmmm Dab, I'd prefer if we don't overdo disambig pages. If its just 1 page named the same/similar, a link at the top will do. (Being very broad here, we already have a page dedicated to 343 stuff in this example)

However in cases where a disambig is 100% needed for pages with the same name I'd personally prefer if we used "343 Industries (disambiguation)" or something along those lines for the disambig pages.

I mean it keeps the disambiguations being the first thing people find and gets people to the information they are looking for. If its not the page they are looking for, the disambig/real world page would be 1 click away.

I disagree. I think that the disambig pages should be given the name without the suffix, so that people will land on them when searching, and be directed to the relevant page, rather than having three separate pages none of which use the exact term people are looking for.

That would risk a lot of the pages being named "Page name (in-universe)" however... which I have to say would be odd. I'd prefer that the disambigs get it because they are more tools for the user to use to find a page.

The disambig page would be linked at the top of the page so it wouldnt be hard to find at all, and is the first thing the user sees on the article itself if they are looking for an alternative option.

That said, when there is only two pages, why do we need a "disambig" page anyhow? A "For the in-universe" label at the top of the page does the job just as well. Dismbigs in general would be better suited when there is too many options for the label to handle. At least in my eyes.
