Request for Adminship: Blemo
Submitted: April 7th, 2008, by CommanderTony
Result: Closed by nominee

NOTICE: I would like to cancel my RfA, because of two main reasons: First, like many of the users that voted against me, I did not feel that I was ready to take on the role of administrator. I felt that everything went by too prematurely and I felt that this was a huge step for me. And secondly, I seem to be losing touch with the Halopedia community off of work, school, etc. Thanks for those of you who voted, --Blemo File:Progress Wheel.gif]] TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 05:33, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Blemo would like to remind everyone that this RfA is not a "popularity vote", but rather a "community vote". Please do not vote only because you either know me, or are just friends with me. Thank you. --File:General.png|25px]] Blemo File:Progress Wheel.gif]] TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 04:19, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Nomination

I, CommanderTony, nominate Blemo for adminship of Halopedia.
Nominee, please accept or defer the above nomination below this line.

I, Blemo, gladly accept this nomination with full confidence. --Image:Lieutenant General.jpg|25px Blemo File:Progress Wheel.gif]] TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 04:46, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Reason for Nomination

Blemo has shown that he can do outstanding and great work for Halopedia and it's members. He is also a very popular Halopedian who seems to enjoy socializing with fellow Veteran Halopedians, and Junior members alike. I think he can be both an asset to the Administration and Halopedia.

He's made 1,700 edits to the mainspace. 1,700 is almost twice of 1,000, so it is even more. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Symbol_neutral_vote.svg Neutral - Due to issues that have happened in the past with moderation, and considering that this is the most needed field of expertise right now, I feel Blemo's lack of moderator experience on, for example, the IRC channel makes me unable to support him. This may be changed with evidence of moderation experience. This is not a vote of opposition because Blemo is a good, contributing member of the community and I'm sure that such issues can be overcome as needed. --forgottenlord 18:14, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

  1. Moderator experience? How so? --Image:Lieutenant General.jpg|25px Blemo File:Progress Wheel.gif]] TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 19:06, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Having to make unpopular decisions based upon what is necessary, acting in an unbiased and logical manner, recognizing and acting against infractions of the rules set, etc. I do not believe such experience can be provided from Halopedia unless you are an administrator or moderator, but a parallel position in another community would be acceptable as a substitute. I have, in the past, recommended RfA candidates be given moderator status on #halopedia to better gauge their abilities to moderate and I believe in one case (CT) this actually did happen. --forgottenlord 21:18, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Symbol_neutral_vote.svg Neutral - Ok, I hate changing votes, but i've thought into this matter, paying as much attention to every little detail as I possibly can. When I first joined Halopedia, I always saw Blemo around helping the community, whether it be with userboxes, awards or helping them with coding for their pages. I have no reason to doubt his ability to help the community, even if he were to be an admin. I know he's likely to be a great admin, and that his popularity means it will be possible for him to get on with and strengthen relationships with everyone in the community. But after reading through this page, I do feel that popularity plays a big part in this RfA. It does seem (to me, if not anyone else) that many have voted for Blemo due to popularity/friendship on Halopedia, and haven't considered his abilities as an admin at all, which is unfair to Blemo in my honest opinion. Also, Blemo is a very funny guy. You can guarantee laughs when he's on the IRC, and this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Blemo does strike me as slightly irresponible, but only on the humour side of things. We're all like this at times, even myself, it can't be helped. However, I do think that this, paired with popularity, is why he has obtained votes. I stand firmly behind his abilities as an admin and his abilities in most other fields, including his personality, but I think being neutral suits my opinion better at this moment in time. Sorry Blemo. HaloDude 10:51, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Against (3/2) Sysop

Oppose.svg Oppose - I haven't seen any demonstration of good technical and/or article-editing skills from Blemo yet, and as Forgottenlord says, I'll need to quantify his moderator capabilities on the IRC channel. I would recommend putting him on the fast-track for a trial operatorship so I can evaluate him in that respect. However, my most weighing objection is about article editing. Blemo, if you have time, I should also talk to you privately to evaluate you further. Regards, RelentlessRecusant 'o the Halopedia Team TALKMESSAGE 20:44, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I understand completely what you mean by "no article-editing skills lately". As you can well see with the new skin and points structure, a large majority of users don't really seem to care about editing articles as much anymore, even if they are veteran users. I have been editing many UNSC articles a long time ago before the skin, and received many promotions in the UoH and awards, such as your prestigious Relentless Honor. It was partially my idea to take action on the part of users not editing anymore in Blog:The new Halopedia. And by "technical skills", do you mean my experience with HTML and Wikia coding? I've been using those a lot lately and I must admit I haven't used them recently except for my userpage. Aside from all that, I would love to arrange a meet. --File:General.png|25px]] Blemo File:Progress Wheel.gif]] TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 03:15, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Oppose.svg Oppose Ok, I feel stupid changing my vote again, but I have to agree with RR. Yeah, he's a friendly, popular guy with a nice attitude and almost everyone, if not everyone, admires, but I don't think he's ready to be an admin quite yet. He's got quite a few edits, yes, but just doesn't strike me as an admin material. I'm not trying to be the bad guy here, but I just feel like you need to be a bit more mature and be able to learn how to handle more responibility then he has so far. Honestly, I think the only reason he has as many votes as he does is becaue of his popularity. ChurchReborn 04:22, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I have tried to stop getting people to vote only because of my popularity -- in which I haven't had the slightest idea of where I got it -- by adding a message at the top of the page in bold. Apparently, everyone who voted that didn't give a good reason didn't really read it, just looked at the name Blemo, and clicked Support. -_- --File:Major.png|25px]] Blemo File:Progress Wheel.gif]] TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 06:19, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
People have read it, they just don't care and they're gonna do what they want to. And another thing that's been lingering in my mind is... Ever since your RfA was submitted and some people said you need to be a bit more mature to be able to handle being an admin, it seems like you killed your personality completely to be able to do that. Like HaloDude said above, you should expect to have laughs when you're on IRC, but now, you're just... there. Just not how you acted before. But this is just me typing up a random thought thats been in my head for a while at 12:42am. O_o ChurchReborn 07:46, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

We've always imposed a three month requirement for RfA's. I think it's especially important now, where newer users are too absorbed in the new social tools to have had a chance to experience the wiki and our community properly. -- Manticore (talk) 06:12, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
The three month requirement was imposed on candidates, not voting. I know for a fact that this was not the case on Ryan's RfA given the fact that I was actually permitted to vote on it back in August while AJ's vote was removed because he hadn't been there for a sufficiently long time. I think, but I can't remember, that my vote on CT's entry may also have been before the three months were up. At no point was my or any other vote that likewise was over one month and under three months contested by you or any other admin for all forms of voting - including RfAs - while I was a part of the community. --forgottenlord 16:47, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

So who makes the final decisions?MasterChiefPettyOfficerSpartan Contribution 13:11, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Me and the other Administrators do. File:CommanderTony Logo.PNG|25px]]UoH|General]] Tony, Administrator of HalopediaTalk 4/08/2008
Well, I think that the admins pick whether or not pass an RfA. Community votes don't count as much, as the decision lies with the administration anyway. --File:General.png|25px]] Blemo File:Progress Wheel.gif]] TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 23:51, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
  • To user:Ghost sangheili: I noticed that you scratched out 4 voters either for "not having over 50 edits" or did not sign. First off, three of them had over 50 edits, but did not record so during the skin change. Try using Special:Editcount, next time. ^_^ Secondly, if someone doesn't sign, it doesn't mean it isn't a vote. You should try looking in the History page to try and identify the voter. ^^ --File:General.png|25px]] Blemo File:Progress Wheel.gif]] TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 00:09, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Honestly I know admins need to be goody goodys but not bieng banned wat if you were banned by just slightly it is my friends fault I was bannned but now because of this I have turned myself around and contributed to halopedians and halopedia I think it is Unfair for blemo to be discluded from 1 banning.and hereby support him.Jon117
Talk about this somewhere else, no good whining about it, you deserve it, admins are sensible men!MasterChiefPettyOfficerSpartan Contribution 10:20, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
He was talking aboutwhy he think one banning shouldn't of counted against Blemo, he wasn't whining. And, btw, in my opinion some the admins aren't sensible, although that is probably because we have had some scuffles over many things in the past, we have a general dislike of the others' way of doing things, and we usually think the other is wrong. In all honesty, I like all the admins as people, but not some as admins. Just my opinion thar. --General JWRFile:470px-Odst 1.jpg|20px]] The Company|Campaigns|Enlist! 18:16, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Blemo truly does desurve to be a Admin. He helped me out when I joined; Hell, I thinked he helped EVEYONE at one point or another. SPARTAN-118

  • Okay, Blemo has 34 votes for. HaloDude's passed with 25, so why is it still open? Shouldn't he be deletin' spam left right and centre already? --UserWiki:Specops306|Specops306]], Kora 'Morhek 04:30, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Read the neutral and against sections. That might give an idea. --File:Major.png|25px]] Blemo File:Progress Wheel.gif]] TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 06:07, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Our votes mean nothing, the Admins decide what happens in the end - is what happens. He can have 50 people support him and he still might not make it. They look at the person's skills as an admin and the like, which is why, imo, HaloDude's was going to pass without question (that is just my opinion, some people might say otherwise about his RfA.) Questions

Nominee, if you accept the nomination, please answer the following questions. It is advised that voters check the nominee's responses before voting.

  1. When did you join Halopedia?
March 19th, 2007, between the times of 9:40 AM to 12:21 PM.
  2. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to Halopedia?
My edits for UNSC articles, work on templates, assistance for others.
  3. What do you believe are your most valued technical contributions to Halopedia?
I've helped adjust any errors on templates, as well as creating them. I am very familiar with HTML and Wikia coding and I also helped many users create their own awards and user boxes, as RR says in the ON volume of May 20, 2007, and my my user page being proof of this. I also have over 339 edits on templates.
  4. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to the community?
Well, my edits for the UNSC-related characters, vehicles, etc. articles. I have helped out a variety of users throughout my time here, some of them already MIA, such as coding and help on editing. I also help newer users with my FAQ. I have created the Under Construction template. I admit that I haven't been as on-task with the article-editing as I used to be, but I will return to it when I have time.
  5. What is your expertise with programming languages, if any?
As per Question 3. I’ve helped out on creating several templates, and I have some minor experience with MediaWiki:monobook.css. I will be more than happy to learn any more coding tricks, if any.
  6. Do you administrate any other Wikia? If so, which?
I co-founded and administer the Ghost Recon Wiki. I also adopted the “Bourne Again” Wiki, in which I spent my first day there creating 20 new articles. I was an admin during the Army of Two Wiki, but was later requested to be removed because of my lack of knowledge and inactiveness there.
  7. If you are administrated, what changes do you propose?
I will enforce the peace on Halopedia and prevent any vandals from ever touching an article, delete any polls, quizzes, or blogs with profanity, personal offenses, etc., and draft any new policies.
  8. To the best of your understanding, what does administratorship entail?
I feel that an administrator is a leadership position in the community, and like every community, there are leaders. Administrators are in charge and responsible of the community, as a mayor is to his/her city. Administrators have the right to police users and delete articles.
  9. To the best of your understanding, when will you be able to check Halopedia after you are administrated, in the event that you are?
Every single day or minute I get my hands on a computer.
  10. What communities are you associated with online, Halo and otherwise?
Well, my main community would be Halopedia. I also participate in other Wikias, Bungie.net, YouTube, and a few others.
  11. What is your familiarity with the Halo universe?
I own all three games, every book written with the words, “Halo”, on it, several action figures, and I am looking forward in getting any future Halo merchandise..
  12. What is your familiarity with Wikia and Halopedia policies?
I’ve learned many of their policies either by GPT (special thanks to him) or by reading many of Wikia and Halopedia policies.
  13. What is your relationship with the Halopedia community and current administration?
I log onto the IRC daily and XBL with members.
  14. How may users contact you?
Well, there are several ways to contact me.
  • I am located here
  • I have an email address, which is "spartan_104@verizon.net".
  • I can be reached on the IRC, typically on #halopedia.
  • Gamertag: Blemo 23 on XBL
