I recently made a short visit to Userboxes and was surprised (well, not really!) to see that there is a substantial majority of userboxes left as orphaned userboxes or those with limited use. I understand that userboxes are used by users to express themselves (showing off collection, what they played, what they want to play, etc), but there comes a point in time where these userboxes will see limited to no use.

As such, I believe a clean up of these userboxes is needed, as well as the need to establish the essential userboxes (i.e. All Easy userbox).

The following is a list and/or classification of userboxes I believe should be removed, but do note that this is not an exhaustive list:

  • USERNAME friend userbox
  • I-Follow/Support/Hate-This-Character/Faction/Object userbox
  • Editcount userbox
  • Friend count userbox
  • Personal details userbox

In addition to removing these userboxes, I would suggest a How-To guide to create a user's own userbox without having to create template page for that userbox. This would reduce clutter as well as expanding user freedom of customising their userboxes to their liking.— subtank 10:42, 7 March 2014 (EST)

Most of the friend userboxes are from long-gone users, so I have no problem cleaning up those categories. For personal details category, are you referring to userboxes such as language, nationality, political party, etc? Just want to clarify.--Spartacus TalkContribs 11:17, 7 March 2014 (EST)

Yes. Those information do not require their own individual template page. However, if there is a necessary need for such, then I would suggest we create a centralised userbox template that covers such details. All that would be required on the user's part would be simply to specify the field parameters of that template. — subtank 12:27, 7 March 2014 (EST)
