If Chief destroyed High Charity as planned in Floodgate, but still had Cortana's message, then the Sangheili and Forward unto Dawn would have beaten the Covenant right after the Third tower went down, Chief and Johnson would have made it out alive, and 343 Guilty Spark would be happy. In Halo 4 Requiem opens because John-117 was there, and thus the Reclaimer Saga would not have happened. So if John followed orders, he would have saved everyone a lot of trouble.—This unsigned comment was made by Sallan (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

If Cortana had destroyed High Charity as intended, then Chief and the Arbiter would have had to cut their way through a company of Covenant troops without the distraction of their temporary Flood allies. Truth may have had the time to activate the Ark and activating the Array, including the backup Installation 04 it was building, killing everybody. And if they did make it to Truth in time, they'd still be left with another Halo, restoring the Array to full capacity, which I don't imagine anyone, human or Covenant, would have been happy at. And as for Requiem - the Didact couldn't care less whether the Chief destroyed the Ark or not, he was biased against humanity already. He would have marched on Earth whatever the case. As it is, though, the Evolutions short story ""Human Weakness" makes it clear that it was the Gravemind who stopped Cortana blowing up In Amber Clad. It wasn't a matter of "following orders," she was incapable of carrying it out. Edit: reread your point about Requiem. You forget that the Covenant remnant had a fleet in orbit, working on breaking their way in. And whatever defences Requiem could field, they would have eventually, the Didact awakening with a fleet of loyal followers and descending upon Earth with no warning from the Infinity, which was drawn there by the Chief's locator beacon. -- Qura 'Morhek The Autocrat of Morheka 19:33, 31 August 2014 (EDT)
