I thought maybe it was time to start a forum discussion on Halo Online. I have found this video on Youtube. I'm currently watching it, so I don't know if it shows anything new, but it's pretty interesting so see how the game's graphics come from both Halo 3 and Halo 4. I was a bit confused by the decision to make a Halo game, even multiplayer-only, exclusive to Russia. Not because I have anything against Russia specifically (though I do wish they'd stop needling Ukraine) but because I would expect it to make massive amounts of money for a worldwide release. But I've seen a few arguments that have helped me understand. Firstly, it probably won't stay exclusive to Russia if it does well there. Saber Interactive have offices in Russia, making them on-hand to handle the maintenance side of things. There's also the fact that Russia has a low adoption rate of the Xbox, which means that it won't be competing with Microsoft's own products.
As for what I've seen of the game itself, it looks good. It looks like Halo 3, but with sprint. I've seen some hints at weapon customisation, and the video you linked here says that players can "rent" super weapons for a given number of credits earned/bought which seem like it would be annoying for other players but something that keeps them playing, I suppose.
I don't think I'd play it, myself. I'm a campaign guy. But I think this is a good thing, and I hope it does well. -- Qura 'Morhek The Autocrat of Morheka 01:18, 28 March 2015 (EDT)

Right now it's just in Beta. I highly doubt they're going to be it Russia-exclusive; they just want a certain place to test it. Eventually they'll want moar money, and that means bringing Halo Online everywhere else. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 01:56, 28 March 2015 (EDT)

I agree it'll probably come out worldwide soon enough — the talk about keeping it exclusive to Russia is probably just to build up hype. I personally have no interest in the game itself (due to it being multiplayer only and free-to-play with microtransactions and gameplay-affecting upgrades) so the exclusivity or lack thereof doesn't bother me either way. I'll be consuming any new bits of lore it contains though. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 12:13, 29 March 2015 (EDT)

Armor

Online's introduction of approximately one hundred new MJOLNIR variants reminded me of a nagging gripe of mine. Back in the day, MJOLNIR was supposed to be this über-suit that's designed to be good for every situation Spartans might find themselves in. These days the suits' design philosophy seems to engender an absurd degree of over-specialization to the point you have a variant for every action a soldier can carry out in the field, and then some for every different environment. And even though the variants themselves are designed to be interchangeable for different types of missions, we never see the canonical Spartans change their armor parts according to the mission's environment. Though this is obviously an artistic conceit for the sake of keeping the Spartans recognizable, it erodes the canonical rationalization for the existence of different permutations. That is to say nothing of where the UNSC or all the firms manufacturing the variants are pulling the resources for all this; apparently humanity just overcame the problem of scarcity at some point between December 11, 2552 and January 1, 2553. I liked the way Reach mostly limited the customization to extra pieces of plating or additional webbing, pouches and gadgets rather than replacing major sections of the suit like the GEN2-era permutations do. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 12:13, 29 March 2015 (EDT)
