Edit War[edit]

To avoid an edit-war, I'll start the discussion here since it will most likely get your attention. :)
It has been suggested in the above link that the most recent depiction within the Halo universe should be the intro-image in any in-universe article. With that said, the linked discussion does not cover only Character articles but all in-universe/canon articles.
To quote Tuckerscreator, "Canonically, it's not his most recent image. The timeline has gives him a newer look (Mark VI), and we assume the furthest canon here to be the present day when writing from an in-universe viewpoint." This also applies to the Brutes' armour, that the armour we see in Reach is not the most recent image and that the Brutes sported improved armour designs (H3) following the events of Reach (H:R) and Delta Halo (H2). Of course, as I said in the discussion, if they look similar, then utilise the updated graphics... which would be the case of Halo: Combat Evolved.— subtank 19:57, 22 October 2011 (EDT)

That's fine and dandy for characters, but when it comes to Covie species they get art style changes each game, it has nothing to do with the timeline. As such the most current canonical appearance for them would be what ever the newest game is. All material coming out now uses the Reach designs for Covies and if any of them appear in Halo 4 they will most likely build off of the Reach art style. Nobody can look at the vastly different proportions of the Brutes in Halo 3 and Reach and just say "Oh they changed after a couple months". Essentially every time the design of a species is changed that appearance is retroactively the canonical appearance, no matter the timeline placement. Also the improved armor design thing is just conjecture, It also doesn't help that in the newest Encyclopedia they replace pictures of the Minor, Ultra, and Chieftain with the Reach models.user:ArchedThunder

— You.

It's not always a complete design reboot. In fact, in-universe explanations for the design changes are found all the time. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 20:08, 22 October 2011 (EDT)

That in no way can explain the completely different body and facial structure of the Brutes in Reach. The same thing happens with Elites, Grunts, Jackals, and Drones.

I have an idea that will end this all, does this wiki support alternating page pictures like most wikis? If so we can just make it so it will randomly pick the Reach or Halo 3 image when ever you go the the page. User:ArchedThunder

Yes, but it will confuse the readers.
As for the discussion, note that events of Reach takes place before the events of Halo 3. To outright ignore that the armour designs in Halo 3 never existed and that the Brutes in Halo 3 sported the armours displayed in Reach would be just wrong in the principles of canon. Of course, this is possible if Halo 3 gets the same treatment like HCE... but until so, this is the standard for use of image for all articles. As provided by Tuckerscreator, the short story is an example of a medium that provides an explanation for these discrepancies. On the case of the Encyclopaedia, what 343 essentially does is using the latest model without taking in account of canon (in other words, prettiest of them all). Of course, I may be wrong since I don't have any of the Encyclopaedia in my possession.— subtank 20:35, 22 October 2011 (EDT)

This doesn't change the fact that the body and facial structures of the Brutes in Halo 3 are no longer canon, also how would that confuse readers, how stupid do you think they are? Tons of wiki's do that with no complaints.ArchedThunder

I meant they would be confused as to why one image is present and the other is not. >.>
Redesigns/Graphical updates does not always lead to no-longer-canon content. The body and facial structures of the Brutes in H2 received an updated treatment in H3, followed by H:Reach. Just because they are updated, doesn't mean they could no longer coexist with the previous title. Unless there is a jarring gap, try to gather the pieces and see if they fit. Without going into complex explanations, simply imagine H:Reach Brute model in H2 with H2 armour and imagine H:Reach Brute model in H3 with H3 armour. That's how they are presented in the Halo universe perspective, supposedly.— subtank 20:48, 22 October 2011 (EDT)

I guess I'm going to have to live with the extremely low poly Halo 3 brutes because there is no way I am wining this argument. Can we at least have an unhelmeted Reach brute as the Page picture for the primary brute article?

Guess so since it has, like you said, the most updated body and facial structures. — subtank 21:01, 22 October 2011 (EDT)
I don't have the ability to render one, I will take a picture but some one else will have to render it.
