"Corporal Mike" is the nickname of a sangheili given to him by a UNSC marine. "Mike's" real name is Vel Zaxum. Vel Zaxum is a Spec Ops Sangheili that has lead many successful missions, some of those missions he was the only one that made it back alive. One of his few unsuccessful missions was to find a weapons cache on Installation 04. As soon as he entered the forerunner stucture he started to feel nervous. When he saw the forerunner glyphs he warned the Zealot that was in command to turn back. Vel Zaxum had studied forerunner glyphs and only half recognized these symbols. The half he recognized ment danger and he could only guess at the other half. His leader told him to be silent--he didn't want the Unggoy and Kig-yar to be frightened. They went deeper and deeper into the structure until they got to their target, a small room in the basement of the structure. Vel Zaxum threw a plasma grenade at the lock. It went off, short circuiting the door's lock system. Entering, they discovered five more doors. Vel Zaxum again advised the Zealot to turn back, but again he refused. "All we have to do is grab the weapons and leave," said the Zealot, "for a Spec Ops you scare easily." He walked over to the controls and opened the doors. Suddenly Flood Infection Forms rushed out, jumping on the Zealot and killing him almost instantly. "All units retreat," yelled Vel Zaxum, "this is no weapons cache." The Unggoy and Kig-Yar turned and fled while Vel Zaxum and the other Sangheili tried to retreat in good order, but the flood charged them with no consideration for casualties. Eventually the Sangheili were routed and Vel Zaxum was the only one that made it back to the phantom.
