What happened to the Sentinels?

I think this has already been established in Halo: Ghosts of Onyx. Once they took out the underground Sentinel factory, there were no more to cover the surface. The IP has a genuine point. Even with the factory destroyed, there were still literally trillions of active Sentinels that used to be inert under the surface. I'm not sure where you're getting the part with the Covenant bombarding the surface - maybe you're recalling the scene where LtCdr Waters thinks the Covenant are glassing the planet when he sees the enormous radiation readings, but he's quickly proven wrong when the energy is discovered to originate from within the planet instead: the Sentinels' combined fire. The Sentinels blast the surface off, obliterate the Covenant fleet and the comm satellites deployed by the Dusk, which then promptly bails out. Before the Dusk escapes, Waters notes that "They're protecting this place." Yet a few months later, they're nowhere to be seen. Karen Traviss forgot the canon again Perhaps the Halo Array being turned inert again at the Ark caused all the Sentinels to leave attack mode? After all, it was the activation of it that caused these Sentinels to awake in the first place. Tuckerscreator^(stalk) 00:15, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
